The FOD8332 is a 2.5 A output current IGBT driver optocoupler capable of driving medium power IGBTs rated up to 1,200 V and 150 A. It is suitable for fast switching drives of power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in motor control inverter applications and high performance power supply systems. The FOD8332 provides important protection features needed to prevent failure conditions that can lead to destructive heat dissipation in IGBTs. The device utilizes ON Semiconductor's proprietary coplanar Optoplanar encapsulation technology and optimized IC design for reliable high isolation voltage and high immunity with high common-mode rejection and power supply rejection provisions. The device is encapsulated in a wide-body, 16-pin miniaturized plastic encapsulation, and the gate drive channel includes an AlGaAs light-emitting diode (LED) optically coupled to a high-speed driver IC with a low RDS(ON) MOSFET output stage. The fault sense channel includes an AlGaAs light emitting diode (LED) optically coupled to an integrated high speed feedback circuit for fault sensing.

The available output voltages can be customized. Two NCV78702 devices can be combined and can operate with a boost circuit that functions as a multiphase booster (2-phase, 3-phase, 4-phase), further optimizing the filtering effect of the boost circuit and reducing the application's total cost of materials and increasing power.
