The VHC574 is an advanced high-speed CMOS octal flip-flop with 3-state output fabricated in a silicon-gate CMOS process. It achieves high-speed operation similar to an equivalent bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining the low power consumption of CMOS. This 8-bit D-type flip-flop is controlled by a clock input (CP) and an output enable input (OE#). When the OE# input is high, the eight outputs are in a high impedance state. An input protection circuit ensures that 0V to 7V is applied to the input pins regardless of the supply voltage. This device can be used as an interface between a 5V system and a 3V system as well as two power systems, such as battery backup. This circuit prevents damage to the device due to mismatched supply and input voltages.
